Parents can now get free eye tests - as long as their child has one too

Getting the kids ready to go back to school can be a costly time, but there's now a freebie in it for parents too.

As for every child that's booked in for a free eye test, Optical Express will also give their accompanying parent a free eye test too.

Adult eye tests will usually set you back around £20 (depending on store and location), with the Optical Express giveaway even including a bespoke iScan report outlining everything you need to know about your vision.

The offer is available across all clinics nationwide until the 8th September, and to get yours for free, you just need to book you and your child in via the Optical Express website.

You won't be able to get the freebie if you haven't pre-booked online, as everyone that books in for it will receive a barcode voucher by e-mail which you'll then need to present at your appointment to get your freebie.

It applies to all children under 16 in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland on all tests booked in advance, although in Scotland, eye tests are also provided free by the NHS to all eligible patients, so you may not even need to bring a child with you to get one.

Stephen Hannan, Clinical Services Director at Optical Express comments: “For parents who are concerned about their child's vision or eye health, we strongly encourage that you take your child to visit your local Optometrist. Many children benefit from having their eyes tested every year, with not all parents being aware that eye examinations (otherwise known as sight tests) for children are free of charge.

“Regular eye tests for both adults and children are vital to expose the early warning signs of eye and many general health conditions. A sophisticated report exclusive to Optical Express called iScan is available to support diagnoses made by Optometrists and Ophthalmic Surgeons at all clinics nationwide.”
