Parents buy son car for his birthday...but police seized it as soon as he drove it

A young driver has had a birthday to forget after police seized the car his mum bought him as a present.

Officers from GMP's Prestwich team say a member of the public called to report the driver on Friday afternoon, October 2.

When the car was stopped, police found that the man did not have the correct insurance.

They stopped the car, a grey hatchback, in Simister and seized it before removing it from the road.

In a tweet, a GMP Prestwich officer said: "A birthday boy celebrating today was out in the car his mum bought for him as a present.

"Unfortunately no one bought insurance and his driving through Simister brought him to police attention following a complaint from the public.

"The car was seized by GMP's Specials."

Officers included a picture of the vehicle being towed away from the area by a recovery truck.

Owners of cars seized by the police have to pay a 'release fee' of up to £200, plus £20 for each day the vehicle is impounded.
