Parents attack 22-year-old, husband in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: The parents of a 22-year-old woman, a nursing student at NHL Medical College in Ellisbridge, attacked her and her 24-year-old husband with sticks, as they were “opposed to their love marriage”, states an FIR filed with Ellisbridge police.

Devji Chavda, resident of Gajanvav village in Dhrangdhra taluka of Surendranagar district, said that had married Zeenal Parmar, a resident of Thakkarbapanagar, in September 2021 against the wishes of her parents. After their wedding, Zeenal’s parents often threatened them and tried to attack them, Chavda said in the FIR.

On Monday morning, Chavda took Zeenal to NHL Medical College for her exam and sat outside VS Hospital. At around 1.30pm, Zeenal called Chavda and told him that her parents had come to NHL Medical College and were beating her.

Chavda rushed to the college and found that Zeenal’s father, Bijal, and mother, Gomti Parmar, were assaulting her. Chavda intervened to rescue her but Bijal them attacked him with a stick.

He alleged that Bijal hit him on the face and shoulder causing him severe injuries. They then attacked Zeenal and began threatening to kill her. Passersby gathered around and rescued Zeenal.

Zeenal and Chavda were admitted to Sola Civil Hospital and their conditions are said to be stable.

Chavda said that Zeenal’s parents had threatened to kill them as the couple had disgraced them in society by marrying without their consent.

Ellisbridge police registered a complaint of causing hurt, use of abusive words, criminal intimidation and abetment against Gomti and Bijal Parmar.
