Parents are only just discovering hidden nappy feature - and it means less mess

Changing your child's nappy is never the most enjoyable experience, but it's all part and parcel of the parenting experience, and it's something that many parents just get on with and don't really think about too hard.

But nappy changing can be made even more gruelling by the phenomenon known to many parents as a blowout, which is when your baby's bowel movement escapes the nappy before it has a chance to be absorbed.

Cleaning up after a blowout isn't most people's idea of a good time, but thanks to one mum, there could be a way to stop your child from having these catastrophic incidents - and the key is all in the nappy.

According to a woman named Helen on TikTok, the nappies you buy for your child have a hidden feature that most parents don't know about, and it could be the secret to preventing blowouts and unnecessary mess.

Helen, who posts under the username @helen_motherhood, claimed that when you unfold the nappy, there should be two extra flaps at the bottom that pull out to create a bigger surface area for the nappy - giving you more room to work with when you put it on your child.

She said in her video: "Every mum should know about this!

"There are two extra flaps [on a nappy]. It helps to avoid blowouts."

Helen's video has been viewed over 566,000 times, and parents have flooded to the comments to show their appreciation to the mum for sharing the hack - including several dads who have poked fun at her decision to claim it's a trick "every mum" should know.

One person wrote: "Single full-time father here. Thanks for the info!"

While another added: "Thank you for the tip. And every dad too because I did not know that before!"

And a third posted: "Just now learning this three kids in!"

But some claimed the hack doesn't work, as they said the flaps are supposed to help hold your child's mess in the nappy, so by unfolding them, you're actually making them weaker.

Someone said: "Umm, no! This just makes the s**t come out easier! Leave them 'extra flaps' alone! That actually contains the poop in diapers."

As someone else stated: "That is to hold poop in ... don't pull them outward then they won't be strong enough to hold the poop."

Meanwhile, another mum recently shared a hack that could see you bag a free box of Pampers nappies, simply by buying the product as you normally would.

Lucy Rebecca revealed that all you need to do is download the Pampers Club app, which will entitle you to a free pack of Pampers nappies for every 10 packs that you buy.

The mum explained there's a code printed on the inside of every packet of Pampers, and if you enter 10 codes into the Pampers Club app, you'll have earned yourself a free pack.
