Parents are divided over how Kym Marsh reacted when she and her daughter got norovirus

Kym Marsh sparked a debate on Instagram after revealing that she and her daughter Polly had been stricken with norovirus.

The former Coronation Street star declared 'the show must go on' as mother and daughter both prepared to take to the stage in the musical Elf - A Christmas Spectacular, buoyed with energy drink.

Sharing a photo of herself and Polly backstage in Dublin, she said: "So after me and Polly both got struck down with the norovirus last night, today I am thankful for makeup and Lucozade!! The show must go on as they say."

While some fans applauded her determination, others told the actress that she should be in bed and staying away from people for 48 hours while fighting off the winter vomiting bug.

"Should be in bed and away from people for 48 hours from the last time you was sick chick, honestly you could give your whole cast mates the virus, hope you feel better soon xx" said one fan.

But Kym explained that she was needed on stage, replying: "They needed me on I’m afraid. We don’t have that luxury X"

"I know its your job and you don't want to let people down but when you have that you need to stay at home," said another follower.

"Shouldn’t be near anyone until you’re symptom clear for 48 hours," said another.

And another said: "100% shouldn’t even be near anyone if you’ve had this. So contagious. The show definitely won’t go on if the whole cast come down with it."

Get well soon messages came flooding in for Kym , 43, and eight-year-old Polly.

The youngster is following in her mum's acting footsteps in the show based on the hit Will Ferrell movie about Buddy the elf who is raised by Santa’s elves in the North Pole and travels to New York to find his real father.

"What a queen," praised one fan.

"Your a trouper," said another.

"Still look amazing," applauded another follower.
