Parents and staff fuming as Paisley nursery goes bust overnight

Parents and staff have been left fuming after a Paisley nursery went bust and shut its doors overnight without warning.

Bosses at Angels Day Nursery say they have been forced to close after running into financial difficulties —leaving staff unpaid and parents without childcare.

The privately-run Hunter Street facility was issued with a formal improvement notice by the Care Inspectorate last year.

Company director Amanda Lynch has now told parents mounting costs have forced her out of business.

Raging staff told how they heard about the closure through a social media chat group with colleagues.

Nursery worker Sharon McDade said the first workers knew of the closure was when some of them received texts from bosses.

She told the Express: “It was out of the blue.

“We’ve all been left without a wage. Lots of us have got kids and mortgages.”

Lindsay Young said the first she heard about it was also from a Facebook chat group with fellow workers.

“It’s ridiculous.

“We’ve got no money, no job, no nothing.”

One angry parent said the way employees have been treated is an insult.

She asked not to be named, but told the Express: “The staff have been treated awfully — getting told not to come in to work and not getting paid the wage they are due.

“The parents and staff are outraged by this.

“No warning, no staff meeting —nothing.

“There was a simple email that some mums didn’t even receive — they found out through Facebook.

“I’m going to suggest setting up an online fundraising page as an act of kindness to show the staff we care.”

The nursery was issued with a formal improvement notice in a damning Care Inspectorate report in September last year.

The watchdog criticised staffing levels, staff training and management practices and demanded a turnaround.

In the wake of the closure, Amanda wrote to parents, saying: “With a heavy heart and deep regret, I inform you Angels Day Nursery has ceased trading.

“We have been advised by the bank that they will not extend our overdraft facilities and our doors have closed with immediate affect.

“The cessation of operations is a consequences of an increase in costs in relation to its employees and Care Commission responsibilities.

“These increased costs have had a detrimental impact on the company’s cash flow and its ability to pay its debts as they fall due.

“After having taken professional advice — and fully examining the current financial position — it is evident that the company cannot pay its creditors and is, therefore, effectively insolvent.”

Nursery bosses have been approached for comment.
