Parents and pet owners are raving about this 'genius' space-saving alternative Christmas tree

Putting up your Christmas tree is a yearly right of passage that officially means it's the season to be jolly.

Hours are spent meticulously placing baubles, wrapping around lights, and perfectly angling the tree topper.

But if you're a pet owner or the parent of a little one, there's always the worry in the back of your mind that it'll soon all come crashing down.

However there is a solution this year.

One savvy mum has shared a Christmas tree hack that will not only save space, but will remain in place throughout the festive period - and people can't stop talking about it.

Posting photos of the 'genius' idea on Facebook, the American mum said: "Idea, for mommies who have a toddler" - and with the incredible reaction she's received, she since made the post public, where it has now been shared 196,000 times and liked 6.2K times.

The hack shows two pieces of wood mounted to the wall, with a fake reel of fir branch layered over the frame to create the illusion of a Christmas tree.

It's then topped off with fairy lights and a light-up star ornament to finish the look.

With people across the globe impressed by the move, it didn't take long for the festive decoration to make an appearance in the Hinch Army House Decorating Inspiration and Tips.

Complimentary comments flooded the post, saying: "Genius", "Very clever and looks fabulous", "Great idea if not much floor space", "This one wouldn't get pulled down".

And it seems pet owners can all relate to the stress traditional Christmas trees cause, with dogs creating showers of fir needles all over the floor, and cats using them as climbing frames.

One Facebook user posted: "I've found a good tree that's suitable for cats."

Although not pictured, you could try adding light-weight baubles to the decoration, as well as layering tinsel.

Easy!
