Parents and guardians expected to supervise children when Dublin playgrounds reopen

Parents and guardians will be expected to supervise their kids and ensure social distancing when playgrounds reopen on Monday.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced on Friday that playgrounds in parks would reopen as part of the substantial easing of lockdown restrictions.

But his comments that the playgrounds would have to be supervised caused confusion as councils had not previously been overseen.

Fingal County Council moved to clarify the situation today, stating that parents and guardians would be expected to supervise children when they are in local parks.

A council spokesperson said: “Fingal County Council notes the announcement that as part of Phase Two of the Government Covid-19 roadmap, supervised playgrounds will reopen.

"We are currently working on a plan that will allow for a phased reopening of playgrounds in line with guidance and subject to the assessment and inspection of all equipment at each location.

"Parent and guardians of children using the playgrounds will be expected to supervise their children in line with existing physical distancing and hygiene guidelines."
