Parents and drinkers step in 'to stop girl, 4, being abducted from pub in Cheshire'

Police in Cheshire have arrested a 51-year-old man from Middlewich after reports of a child abduction in the area.

The man is alleged to have approached a four-year-old girl in The Cheshire Cheese pub on Lewin Street, before attempting to lead her away.

According to Cheshire Constabulary, a parent and members of the public challenged the man and detained him outside the pub so he couldn't leave the area.

The young girl was left physically unharmed by the incident while the man was arrested on suspicion of child abduction.

Currently, he remains in custody.

Chief Inspector Claire Jesson said: “While this was a very concerning incident, this was isolated and the suspect was swiftly arrested.

“I’d like to thank those who intervened and prevented the suspect from leaving the area.

“We have increased patrols to provide reassurance and the family are being supported by officers.”
