Parent slapped with fine for 'inconsiderate' parking on school run as police wait outside

Merseyside police has issued fines to parents for 'inconsiderate parking' outside a Liverpool school this week.

The force attended Woolton Primary school on Monday, October 5, following complaints of parents obstructing the pavement outside the school.

A police notice from the Traffic Management Department was addressed to all parents on the Merseyside police Facebook page.

The letter asked for full co-operation to reduce the dangers to their children, as an alternative to action.

However, as a result of the visit to the school, a ticket was issued.

The notice said: "Wherever possible walk your children to school.

"Reduce the number of vehicles by taking some of your neighbours' children to school.

"Try to park a short distance away from the school entrance and walk the rest of the way.

"Try to park on the same side of the road as other parked cars and not opposite them.

"Be mindful of the residents of the area and try not to obstruct driveways.

"Never park on or opposite the yellow zigzag markings on the road.

"Never park where a school crossing patrol is operating."

A Facebook user replied: "Most primary schools are the same, selfish parents usually blocking crossing points and hashed markings."

While in response to the post, one user commented: "Does the second recommendation not breach current lockdown rules, i.e. mixing households??"

Merseyside Police replied: "This is a generic leaflet used by ourselves for advice regarding school parking, please follow the current Covid guidelines."
