Police have openly criticised a parent for driving their child to school despite living just 200 metres away.

The motorist was caught double parking outside a school in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, while doing the school run.

The driver was issued with three penalty points on their licence and a fine of £100.

But Bordesley Green Police said the parking offence was not the parent’s only faux-pas.

Posting a photo of the offending vehicle on Twitter, the force wrote: “It’s transpired that the driver of the Toyota lives less than 200 metres from the school.

"It would probably be faster to walk and considerably cheaper!"

Showcasing the incident as an example to fellow residents, they went on: “Please remember if you live close enough to the school to walk THEN WALK.

"Let's not endanger children's lives @BGPS #saferparking 3 points and £100 fine in the post."
