Parent seeks reassurance on Mumsnet that daughter won't be 'picked on' because of name

A worried parent has been seeking reassurance on Mumsnet that her daughter will not be "picked on" because of her name. A new mum has taken to the popular forum to question whether her decision to name her daughter Alice was a wise one.

The woman expressed concerns about the regular use of the name in songs, movies and TV shows, particularly Alice in Wonderland. The mum wrote: "Change or keep the name Alice... Hoping someone can help me, I want your honest opinions on girl's name Alice.

"I always loved it, never knew anyone called Alice, and now we have named her, I seem to see the name everywhere. I've zoomed up on all Alice-related topics, including Alice in Wonderland, who the X is Alice.

"Now I'm feeling less confident in my choice and considering changing it. Do you think someone called Alice will be picked on because of her name? I know it's silly but is anyone called Alice who could give me some insights?"

The post quickly garnered more than 90 comments, the Mirror reports, many coming from parents offering reassurance about the choice of name. One person wrote: "I really like Alice and actually only know one in real life."

Meanwhile, a second wrote: "My daughter is Alice and has never been picked on for her name." "I think Alice is a lovely name!" a third added.

A fourth person assured: "The 'who the X is Alice' song is very old now and I'm not sure that any children of your child's age would even be aware of it."
