Parcel delivery horror as thug tries to stab man through his letterbox

Police are hunting two thugs who tried to stab a man through his letterbox.

The two men rang the victim's doorbell in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, last Thursday evening just before 7.30pm saying they had a parcel for him.

The 29-year-old victim opened the door, at a property on George Street, but as soon as he saw the men didn't have a parcel he slammed the door on them.

One of the men then pulled a long-bladed knife out and stuck it through the victim's letterbox several times in a bid to stab him.

The terrified victim called 999 and police are now investigating.

It is believed the thugs, both white - with one wearing a hoodie and the other a baseball cap - tried the scam on other homes in the area in a bid to rob victims.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said today: "The two suspects approached the door of a 29 year-old man in Johnstone, on Thursday evening claiming they were there to deliver a parcel.

"However, after the door was closed, they proceeded to push a bladed implement through the letter box, narrowly missing the victim.

"This was a frightening incident for the victim and we are now urging anyone who may have information about it to come froward to police.

"If you saw two males matching the descriptions and acting suspiciously in the area, then we would like to hear from you."
