Paranoid dad convinced his partner was having affair installed CCTV in their home

A paranoid dad who was convinced his partner was having an affair installed CCTV in their front room to check on her.

Arturas Kucis, 31, regularly accused the woman was seeing other men behind his back.

During their 'volatile' relationship Kucis was controlling and coercive towards her, making derogatory comments about what she wore, claimed she was trying to find a 'rich man' and checked up on her while he was away on holiday.

Kucis, from Salford, left her feeling 'trapped' in the relationship, as he repeatedly said he'd kill himself if she dumped him.

The victim was also left feeling suicidal, as she described feeling like she was in 'prison'.

On one occasion the couple went to stay at a hotel in Wilmslow, Manchester Crown Court heard.

She wore a dress and Kucis said her choice of outfit was 'inappropriate' and too revealing.

She felt 'belittled' and changed into a jeans and top.

Kucis claimed she was trying to attract a 'rich man'.

On a holiday to Ibiza, Kucis accused her of getting dressed up for 'another man', and said she was 'staring' at other men.

She stopped seeing friends and going to the gym, as Kucis became paranoid that she might be seeing other men while out.

The couple later had a child together, and after the boy was born Kucis went on holiday.

He made a video call to her asking to see the child, but he was actually checking up on her and seeing if anyone else was at the house, prosecutor Peter Horgan said.

The couple went on a family holiday to Pontins, and she parked the car in the shade next to a Land Rover.

Kucis shouted at her and claimed she was parking there to try and attract another man.

After they returned home she knew she wanted to end the relationship, but Kucis threatened to kill himself.

He would accuse her of seeing her ex-partner, and installed CCTV inside their house, in the front room.

She tried to switch it off at one point but Kucis 'went mad at her', Mr Horgan said.

She eventually called in the police in January last year following an incident at their home.

After being arrested, Kucis told officers that it was his partner who started the arguments, and that she'd been accusing him of being unfaithful.

"He had no right to treat me this way," the victim said in a statement.

"I felt like the only thing I was allowed to do was stop breathing and end my life.

"Since Arturas has left my house I go on many walks during the day, and no longer feel guilty about doing things for myself."

Defending, Nicola Gatto said Kucis was suffering from depression, and wrongly believed his partner was being unfaithful as she met with ex-partners.

She said the controlling behaviour was not continuous during the relationship, and they also had 'good times'.

Kucis works at a large timber mill and has sought help to address his behaviour, Ms Gatto said.

"It is evident from what I have heard that it was a turbulent, and from time to time abusive relationship," Judge Patrick Field QC said.

"You have admitted behaving very badly towards your former partner, a matter which brings considerable shame upon you.

"It is apparent to me that you were degrading, cruel and belittling in comments that you made.

"You were obsessed with what you thought was her infidelity, and you repeatedly challenged her about it.

"She became isolated from her friends and felt trapped in the relationship."

Kucis, of Duchy Road, Salford, was sentenced to a two year community order after pleading guilty to displaying controlling or coercive behaviour.

He was ordered to complete the Building Better Relationships programme and observe an alcohol monitoring requirement.
