Paramedics taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after ambulance involved in crash

Three people - including two paramedics - are in hospital after a private ambulance crashed into another vehicle in Bolton.

The smash happened on the A58 in Tonge, at around 2.30pm this afternoon (November 17).

Three people were hurt, with two suffering serious injuries, and another also going to hospital with 'not serious' wounds, police said.

Following the crash, Ady Taylor, station manager at Bolton North fire station, said that the road would be closed for hours.

At 4.50pm, he tweeted: “Due to a serious RTC, the A58 from Thicketford Road to Abingdon Road Bolton, is closed in both directions, for approximately two hours, please avoid the area.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said two female paramedics in the ambulance suffered serious injuries.

"At around 2.50pm this afternoon, police were called to a report of a two vehicle collision on Crompton Way, Bolton," they said.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene and initial enquiries have established that an ambulance collided with a Mitsubishi Outlander.

"The road is currently closed. No arrests have been made.

"Two female paramedics from the ambulance have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. The male driver of the Mitsubishi has also been taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious."

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed that a private ambulance was involved in the incident.

It is thought the ambulance was from the Medrescue Group, a private ambulance service partner of NWAS.

It was not carrying a patient on board at the time of the collision, the Manchester Evening News understands.
