Paramedics say 'nothing could be done' to save boy who was hit by fallen tree

Paramedics have stated that 'nothing could be done' to try and save a nine-year-old boy who died after being struck by a fallen tree.

Emergency services were called out at roughly 1pm on Saturday to an area close to Hollington Road, Winnothdale, near Tean, after a tree fell on a boy and a man.

The scene was attended by two ambulances, Midlands Air Ambulances, a paramedic officer and a Community First Responder, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.

Sadly, West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed nothing could be done to save the young boy's life.

The other 72-year-old victim was rushed to the Royal Stoke University Hospita l where he has been receiving treatment following the incident.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an incident near to Hollington Road at 12.52pm on Saturday.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a Community First Responder, and the Midlands Air Ambulances from Cosford and Staffordshire attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered two patients who had been injured by a fallen tree. The boy was in a critical condition and ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support.

"However, despite their best efforts, it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"The man was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment."

Staffordshire Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

His family are being supported by specially-trained officers.
