Paramedics carry injured rider out of state forest after a crash

A 29 year-old dirt bike rider is in a stable condition after he crashed into a tree while riding in the Wallaroo state forest on Thursday.

Paramedics carried the man, who had suffered possible spinal injuries during the accident, around 400 metres through dense bushland before he could be taken to hospital.

Two paramedic units were called to the scene off a four-wheel-drive track in the state forest north of Raymond Terrace around 11.15am, where they had to park their vehicles and walk into the scrub to treat the man, a spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said.

The man had been riding with friends when he hit a tree suffering injuries to his shoulder and possible injuries to his spine, as well as several abrasions.

Paramedics attached to the Rutherford Ambulance station treated the man at the scene before he was carried back to a waiting four-wheel-drive which ferried him to an ambulance to be rushed to John Hunter Hopsital.

A spokesperson for the hospital said the man was in a stable condition on Thursday evening.
