Paramedics called to treat Alex Jones in Celebrity Great British Bake Off tent after blade accident

Alex Jones and baking may not go together as well as the Welsh presenter and her One Show co-host, Matt Baker, as paramedics were called during her stint on the upcoming The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off.

Appearing on Radio 2 this morning, Ammanford-born Jones revealed that emergency services had to be called while the Channel 4 show was being recorded.

Appearing on Zoe Ball's Breakfast Show on Radio Two on Thursday morning, Alex said: "The paramedics were called to the tent. There's a few firsts during this episode!

"Both for myself and Joe (Sugg) for different reasons."

Alex appears alongside YouTuber Joe Sugg, singer James Blunt and presenter Alison Hammond. She confessed: "It's (baking) not my natural habitat, Zoe. But I love the show and I thought 'do you know what? I'm going to give it a bash.'

"I wanted to go inside the tent and put things in one of those mixing bowls. How hard can it be?"

She hinted at the incident which caused the ambulance to be called adding: "I've always wanted one of those mixers - well not any more!"

Alex had previously told Metro what happened in the famous tent where celebrities turn their hand to baking to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

"It turns out my bowl wasn’t attached and the moment the blade hit it, the bowl shattered into 1,000 pieces.

"I’m saying 'I’m absolutely fine' before realising there’s a massive shard of glass sticking out of my hand. I had to go straight off to the paramedic for stitches."

She added she was so concerned about her showstopper that she tried to jokingly stop the paramedic putting on anaesthetic.

"I was like 'No, there’s no time for that, I have a showstopper to make, just do it!’"

The 43-year-old also spoke to Zoe Ball about being at home with all her family, husband Charlie and sons Ted and Kit, during the coronavirus lockdown.

She said: "Like everybody else across country it's been pretty impossible.

"I have still got a little toddler by my feet. Normally he would do anything to watch CBeebies but despite me putting CBeebies on three televisions he's not taking the bait.

"This is what everybody across the country is dealing with."

The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off continues on Tuesday, 8pm on Channel 4.
