Paramedics called about 'someone on the ground' as Greta Thunberg makes speech in Bristol

Paramedics were called after a medical incident as Greta Thunberg began her speech in Bristol.

According to organisers, around 30,000 people went to College Green today (February 28) to hear the 17-year-old environmental activist address the city.

Just before Greta took to the stage at 11.45am, the Youth Strike 4 Climate announcer said: "We need a medic. We need an ambulance."

Near-silence fell on the thousands in attendance for around a minute, before the announcer confirmed a stretcher was on its way and Greta began her speech.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called about an incident on College Green, Bristol.

"The caller reported to us that someone was on the ground. We were not required to attend the incident."

UPDATE: We are posting live updates on Greta Thunberg's visit here.

Before the event, Avon and Somerset police had warned of the potential for "crushing".

Asked if overcrowding or crushing were factors in the medical incident, the ambulance service spokesman said: "That’s not clear from the information we have."

We have approached police for more details.
