Paramedics branded 'dumbasses' in a note after blocking driveway during 999 call

An ambulance team has hit out at a homeowner who called them "dumbasses" for blocking a driveway

The abusive hand-written note plastered on an ambulance attending a 999 emergency in Lymington, Hants, was described as 'completely unacceptable'.

The note which read "Dumbass! You are fully blocking my driveway!" was left on an ambulance which was parked, while paramedics dealt with a medical emergency.

South Central Ambulance Service has now shared a photo of the note saying "this sort of abuse is completely unacceptable".

In a Facebook post SCAS said "Sadly, this was what Zoe and Chris came back to on their ambulance after attending a medical emergency in Lymington, Hampshire, today.

"When our staff attend medical emergencies, they need to park as close as possible to the patient's
house in order to get to them and start treatment as quickly as possible.

"Whilst they will always try and park without obstructing traffic or anyone's driveway, it's not always possible as the alternative of parking further away could add minutes to their arrival time that the patient
they've been sent to simply doesn't have."

One Lymington resident, Alison McNee, said in social media "Absolutely stupid - these fools might need an ambulance to save their life one day.

"What if it was their child that was dying, and the ambulance wasn't allowed to park because it was someone's driveway!"

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust covers Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire, and Sussex and Surrey, a population of more than seven million.

The emergency operations centres handle around half a million emergency and urgent calls each year.
