The wife of a "superhero" paramedic has seen her "world fall apart" after her husband was killed in a freak accident when a stone hit his windscreen.
Jeremy Daw came out of retirement in January and had just a handful of shifts left when he died during an emergency call on the A49 in Herefordshire on Saturday.
The 66-year-old's daughter Kate, 42, said "life will never be the same" without her dad, particularly for her mum Dawn.
Jeremy, also known as Jack, had worked for the West Midlands Ambulance Service for nearly 30 years before stepping down last year only to return months later due to the pandemic.
The large stone is understood to have been flipped up by a lorry wheel before striking the emergency vehicle.
The incident occurred on the junction of Moreton Road at around 8am, with the driver of the ambulance also taken to hospital but later discharged.
Kate told the Sun : "When my son had to do a school project on a super hero he did it on my dad.
"He was the superglue of our family. Life will never be the same without him. He was fantastic."
"He died doing the job he adored," she added.
Jeremy's colleague Nathan Hudson, an emergency services operations delivery director, previously said he was "one of life's good guys".
The grandad had worked as a paramedic in Hereford and Leominster, including on some of the region's air ambulances before returning as an emergency medical technician.
"As well as being a paramedic, he worked as a mentor helping countless other staff to develop their skills and patient care," said Mr Hudson.
“He loved his family, his colleagues and his patients. He was a loving husband, father and a fantastic member of our team and will be missed dearly."
