Paramedic's message to drinkers as Liverpool pubs reopen

On the first day of city bars and restaurants being allowed to re-open for business, a Liverpool paramedic urged people to act responsibly.

Despite the dreary weather and the slow start to the day, bars and restaurants steadily filled with visitors - and Concert Square was busy as usual.

Having eagerly waited for doors to reopen, visitors were quick to make their way to the city centre hub today.

Advanced paramedic Rob Jackson made a plea for there to be no repeat of the scenes that marred Pier Head last weekend, after unofficial celebrations of Liverpool FC being crowned Premier League champions descended into disorder.

He said: "Go out, enjoy yourselves, but please, please do so safely and responsibly.

"Following on from last week we saw a lot of injuries, and a lot of impact on the service in an unnecessary manner.

"So please go out, please enjoy yourselves, but maintain your social distancing.

"Covid-19 is still out there and we need to focus on the people that need us the most."

Venues had social distancing measures in place, such as floor markings and screens.

One bar, Hardy's on Mathew Street, was taking guests' temperature and contact details, as well as providing hand sanitiser, before entry.
