Parambrata backs out of Karan Johar’s film

As soon as the news surfaced that three Kolkata actors Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly and Parambrata Chattopadhyay will be a part of Karan Johar’s next film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ it made every Bengali cine buff excited. However, now, according to industry sources, Parambrata has turned down the Bollywood film which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead.

So, why has he backed out after the initial talks? Parambrata says he’s honoured to receive the offer from Karan Johar but after going through the script he felt the character he was supposed to play doesn’t have anything interesting to offer. He says the script is definitely beautiful and engaging and the audience will surely love the film. However, being an actor-director, the phase he’s now enjoying in his career, it needs him to choose roles wisely. The character has to be important and it should have an impact on the narrative. That’s why he gently asked the makers that he can’t do this film. So, there are no hard feelings between them.

Incidentally, Jisshu Sengupta, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Saswata Chatterjee, Tota Roy Choudhury, Swastika Mukherjee and Paoli Dam - all of them are a part of the bandwagon that’s representing the exquisite talent of Bengali cinema on the national level. These actors are slowly but steadily leaving behind a legacy that we all want to cherish. At present, there’s an increasing demand in both Bollywood and South for actors who have a sizeable amount of work experience in Bengali films.

Be it raw talent, sere professionalism, performing under any kind of pressure and willingness for experimentation – all these factors are adding to the clamour. Considering the national scenario, their acceptance may now be increasing each day, but actors from Bengal are doing their exceptional work over the last ten years or so away from limelight.
