Paralysed man's 'best friend' dog missing as desperate family appeal for his return

A "desperate" family have appealed for the safe return of paralysed man's "best friend" as they search for his missing dog.

Carly Brown, 34, and Dean Quarton's, 35, pet dog, Hugo has not been seen for nine days.

Carly said Dean, who uses a wheelchair, and his dog Hugo, nine, have been "through all the ups and downs" together and the couple are urging for his return.

She said: "I've never known a relationship like it. Dean's been in a wheelchair for 14 years and he's had Hugo nine years, since he was a pup.

"They're inseparable, it's heartbreaking. Hugo will be missing Dean just as much as Dean missed him.

"Hugo's never known any different than Dean."

Carly said the much-loved dog went missing in the Norris Green area on September 15.

According to friend Lyn Haydock, it was as though Hugo "vanished".

She said: "He unfortunately escaped from his own home after a visitor called late one evening and left the door open.

"Hugo has [always been] by Dean's side. They are best mates and he has helped him through some tough times.

"[Dean] is sick with worry and can't eat or sleep. The family are desperate for him to be home. Nine years is old for a bulldog breed, so they are worried for his health."

A Facebook group made to try and find Hugo has gathered a huge following as the local community rallies around to try and find the missing pet.

Lyn added: "I've started a missing Facebook group to help them out. The response has been amazing and we have over 1,000 members since we started it two days ago.

"The help from the public has been amazing."

Anyone who does see Hugo is asked to contact the Facebook group, here.

Carly added: "Anyone can approach him, he’s so friendly he loves everyone."
