Parakeets spotted in trees near River Kelvin

We may be in the full throes of autumn now, but occasionally you'll see something while out and about that can brighten even the dreichest of days.

Ken McGirr was on the look-out for Kingfishers as he walked his dog by the River Kelvin to Dawsholm yesterday afternoon... But the sight of these colourful parakeets took him even more by surprise.

He tells Glasgow Live he spotted around 10 of the eye-catching tropical birds fluttering about in the trees in the grounds of Glasgow University's Small Animal Hospital when they were spooked by a hawk flying overhead... Thankfully, the predator didn't make a rest stop there.

Ken's stunning pictures even show one of the beautiful critters nibbling berries among the branches... Take a look in our gallery below.

Scotland's only breeding flock of wild parakeets have been living in Victoria Park in Whiteinch for some time now... But could we soon be seeing these birds causing a flap in other parts of the city?

Let us know if you've spotted any around Glasgow!
