Paper Mario: The Origami King coming to Nintendo Switch in July

Nintendo has announced that Paper Mario: The Origami King is set to be released on Nintendo Switch consoles on 17 July 2020.

The news constitutes the biggest new Switch game announcement in over a year.

The Origami King is the latest entry in the Paper Mario series, a spin-off of Nintendo’s hit Mario franchise, focusing on the platforming adventures of a fantastical plumber.

Along with the announcement, Nintendo released the first trailer for the game, which included some gameplay footage.

Rumours of The Origami King’s development had been swirling for a while, leaving many gamers wondering if another rumoured Nintendo release, titled “Super Mario All-Stars 2”, could soon follow.

The Origami King is set to arrive the same day as Sony’s Japan-set epic Ghost of Tsushima.

It’s not the first time Nintendo has scheduled one of its releases to coincide with another big competitor; earlier this year, Animal Crossing: New Horizons went toe-to-toe with violent shooter Doom Eternal.
