Paolo Nutini's 'intimate' Liverpool album launch at Phase One sells out in minutes

Paolo Nutini has announced he will play an "intimate" acoustic gig at Jacaranda Phase One in Liverpool later this year, with tickets currently sold out.

Fans of the Scottish singer-songwriter scrambled for tickets after they went on sale on Tuesday evening (July 5). The early afternoon show will take place on Monday, September 12 and is in support of his new album, 'Last Night In The Bittersweet'.

The album was released at the start of this month to rave reviews and is expected to go to number one in the charts. Phase One has a capacity of 200 and bosses of the venue expected tickets to the gig to sell out within a minute, after more than 1,000 people signed up to receive a reminder about the event.

The Seel Street venue is attached to Jacaranda Record Store, the city's largest vinyl record shop. Veso Mihaylov, head of events and marketing at Phase One, said: "You don't really get to see an artist of his level play to 200 capacity venues anymore. So it's going to be a very special experience."

He added: "The venue is attached to a record store so he's playing the shows to promote the albums with the record store. We've had a number of acts like that over the last 12 months - the likes of The Wombats, Miles Kane and Central Cee have all played the venue which has been really good."

Devotees of the Paisley-born performer had the opportunity to buy a CD or vinyl with their ticket to the gig. Mr Mihaylov said the resurgence in vinyl shows "no signs of stopping".

'Last Night In The Bittersweet' is Nutini's first release in eight years following his third studio album, 'Caustic Love'. He has performed a number of smaller, acoustic gigs across the country in support of the album, which have been eagerly anticipated by his fans.

On the same day of the intimate September gig, the singer will also perform at the city's world-famous Cavern Club. The evening gig is part of the National Lottery's Revive Live Tour, with tickets for the performance now sold out.

Nutini, who has a Glaswegian mother and a father of Italian descent, had no formal musical training and was expected to follow his father into the family fish and chip shop business. He was first encouraged to sing by his music-loving grandfather and a teacher at his school who recognized his talent.

In 2006, he released his debut album, 'These Streets', which peaked at number three on the UK albums chart. Its follow-up, 'Sunny Side Up', debuted at number one. Nutini will perform at Phase One, 40 Seel Street, L1 4BE, on September 12.
