Paolo Maldini shares Celtic regret as Milan legend reveals what he told stars about 'extraordinary' Parkhead atmosphere

Milan legend Paolo Maldini reveals he told the squad they were unlucky to miss out on the "extraordinary" atmosphere at Celtic Park.

The Serie A giants were drawn against Neil Lennon's side in the Europa League group stage and beat them home and away to qualify for the knockout stage.

Both matches were played behind closed doors and Maldini admits that playing without a fevered Parkhead crowd helped Milan.

The legendary former defender, who is now Rossoneri technical director, played away at Celtic three times in his illustrious career.

He never tasted victory but feels that the current squad were robbed of a truly special experience as he spoke ahead of a closed doors showdown with Juventus at San Siro.

Maldini told Sky Sport Italia: "It's Milan vs Juventus without an audience, all my greatest memories are tied to the participation of the fans.

"It's a less emotional and exciting kind of football.

"In Glasgow we played without fans and it was an advantage for us, but I told the lads it was a shame for them to play at Celtic Park without that extraordinary support."

Maldini's praise for Parkhead is not new as he admitted being blown away by the atmosphere as a player.

The five-time Champions League winner said: "Every professional footballer should seek to play at least one game at Celtic Park, I have never felt anything like it."
