Paolo Di Canio claims Alisson could have "howler" for Liverpool at San Siro

Former Premier League footballer and manager Paolo Di Canio believes Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson could have a "howler" against Inter Milan on Wednesday evening.

The Reds take on the Italian champions in the San Siro and Jurgen Klopp's side are favourites to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Many believe Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the world, as he currently wears the No1 shirt for Brazil and has helped Liverpool win four trophies since his arrival in July 2018.

Although Di Canio accepts Alisson is a good goalkeeper, he believes the Brazilian is capable of making a mistake and is the weak point in Liverpool's team.

"Alisson performs heroics in goal, but every four or five games he has a bit of a howler," said the West Ham legend, as quoted by Football Italia.

"Liverpool have weak points, every team does."

Many Liverpool fans will be flabbergasted with Di Canio's comments.

Since moving to Anfield, Alisson has kept a remarkable 56 clean sheets in 122 Premier League appearances, conceding 94 goals.

He's also made just eight errors leading to a goal in the competition, producing a howler every 15.25 games - a far better record than Di Canio suggested.

And Alisson was crowned the best goalkeeper on the planet by FIFA in 2019.

When asked who the world's leading stopper is in August 2020 by FIFA's website, Brazil icon Claudio Taffarel said: "It's Alisson. FIFA themselves gave him the award.

"And it was fully deserved. He has immaculate technique, he’s a big-moment goalkeeper, he’s been playing really well and helping his team get results. It’s his time.

"After Alisson, I think there are a lot of great goalkeepers – Ederson, [Marc] Ter Stegen, [Thibaut] Courtois, who I rate very highly, [Jan] Oblak."

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror in June 2020, legendary Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar said Alisson was "undoubtedly" one of the finest stoppers on the planet.

"If Alisson stays at Liverpool long enough he could break all the records that myself and Ray Clemence achieved," said Grobbelaar.

"If he wants to stay at Anfield for a long time he will break all the records for sure and I would love him to do that.

"Alisson is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he deserves to be put on that pedestal."

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo in August 2020, former Liverpool goalkeeper Andy Lonergan claimed Alisson was "by far" the best stopper in the world.

"It’s common for people to say, 'The goalie had nothing to do,' but Alisson makes it that way," claimed Lonergan. "The way he controls his defence.

"The hardest thing for a goalkeeper is having nothing to do because your lesser goalkeepers will start looking for stuff, coming out for balls that aren’t theirs, trying to make an impact on the game.

"But Ali is flawless. He is by far the best goalkeeper in the world and I won’t have anyone ever tell me any differently."
