Panthers WR Torrey Smith compliments Falcons P Matt Bosher’s tackling

Most kickers want no smoke when it comes to making open field tackles. Even if they have a chance to make a play it’s probably in their team’s best interest if they avoid that kind of contact.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped a certain segment of fan from proclaiming there’s no way that U.S. Women’s national soccer team captain Carli Lloyd could play kicker in the NFL, even though she nailed a 55-yard field goal at Eagles practice the other day. Lloyd has apparently received offers from several teams since then. What’s followed has been a very boring and occasionally misogynistic conversation on social media.

Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith weighed in on the subject on Twitter yesterday, saying kickers aren’t worried about tackling, with the exception of “the dude in Atlanta.”

Carolina of course got a first-hand look at what Matt Bosher can do as a tackler last season. He famously laid out Kenjon Barner in their late 2018 matchup.

Barner has since signed with the Falcons and is expected to be their top kick returner this year.
