Several Panthers players may be changing numbers this summer thanks to the new rule that was proposed by the Chiefs, which allows certain skill positions to choose from more options. Defensive end Brian Burns, running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver D.J. Moore have all hinted at a potential switch.
Moore is the first to get it done. According to the team website, he’s changed in his No. 12 jersey, switching to No. 2. He says the number is special because he won a championship wearing it when he was a kid.
“(It) came about when I was in little league. . . It was my first ever real number I had when I won a championship when I was 5 years old.”
This offseason quarterback Tommy Stevens had been wearing No. 2, but according to Darin Gantt he’s switching back to No. 15.

Entering his fourth season in the NFL, Moore has posted 208 catches, 3,156 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns to date. The Panthers recently picked up his fifth-year option, locking him in through the 2022 season.
