The Panthers’ wide receiver room has undergone a major transition over the last couple of seasons. Taller receivers such as Kelvin Benjamin and Devin Funchess have fallen out of favor, while quicker, smaller ones like D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel are taking on larger roles.
That said, projecting how the wide receiver workload will be distributed is a difficult thing to guess. There’s also veterans Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright to consider. If somebody knew how it would play out, they could reap a nugget of fantasy football value next season. On a related note, Pro Football Focus is placing D.J. Moore at No. 40 in their updated top 100 dynasty rankings for the 2019 season.
Moore is sandwiched between two Rams receivers: Robert Woods at No. 39 and Cooper Kupp at No. 41.
For what it’s worth, last year Woods posted 86 catches on 130 targets, totaling 1,219 yards and six touchdowns. The previous season he had 56 catches, 781 yards and five touchdowns on 85 targets. Kupp only played half the 2018 season before injuring his knee but put up 40 catches (55 targets), 566 yards and six touchdowns. When Kupp was healthy as a rookie he posted 62 caches, 869 yards and five scores on 94 targets.
It sounds like PFF’s model projects Moore will have at least 50 catches, 500 receiving yards and five-six touchdowns for the year. In any case, we should know a lot more after the draft. If the Panthers pass on the wide receiver position, it will be an excellent sign for Moore’s fantasy prospects.
Moore is not the only Carolina player who made the list. PFF also had running back Christian McCaffrey at No. 5.
