Panthers Week 3 injury report: Cam Newton, Kawann Short not practicing

When it rains it pours. Not only is Panthers quarterback Cam Newton not practicing, neither is the team’s start defensive tackle Kawann Short. Meanwhile, veteran linebacker Bruce Irvin is still not participating due to his hamstring injury for the third straight week.

Here’s our first look at the Week 3 injury report.

Player Injury Wed Thu Fri Status
QB Cam Newton Foot DNP DNP
LB Bruce Irvin Hamstring DNP DNP
DB Rashaan Gaulden Groin DNP DNP
DT Kawann Short Shoulder DNP DNP
OL Brandon Greene Neck DNP DNP
TE Greg Olsen Back Limited Full

Newton is dealing with the same foot sprain from the preseason, which was aggravated in Thursday night’s loss to Tampa. Coach Ron Rivera has already said that if Cam can’t play, Kyle Allen will start at quarterback against the Cardinals. He has not ruled out Newton yet, though.

It’s unclear when Short suffered his shoulder injury or how serious it is.

Update:

Newton and Short both did not practice again on Thursday. Rivera has still not ruled Cam out and says he’s not ready to name a starter yet. He walked out of Thursday’s press conference after refusing to take more questions about Newton.
