Panthers Week 2 injury report: Greg Olsen not practicing

The Panthers are on a short week as they prepare to host the Buccaneers in a Thursday night matchup.

Tight end Greg Olsen and safety Rashaan Gaulden have been added to the injury report this week. On the bright side, rookie Greg Little is making progress through the concussion protocol and is participating in practice.

Here’s a look at where things stand going into Week 2.

Player Injury Mon Tue Wed Status
TE Greg Olsen Back DNP DNP FP Questionable
LB Bruce Irvin Hamstring DNP DNP DNP Out
DB Rashaan Gaulden Groin DNP DNP LP Questionable
OT Greg Little Concussion FP FP FP
RB Christian McCaffrey Rest FP Limited FP

Olsen had a rough Week 1 game against the Rams, catching just four of nine targets. It’s possible his back was bothering him but to be fair Cam Newton was off the mark on several of them. If Olsen winds up unable to play Thursday night, expect second-year tight end Ian Thomas to play a bigger role. For what it’s worth, Olsen says he thinks he’ll play but admits the short week is making it tough.

McCaffrey got a rest/limited day on Tuesday, which makes perfect sense given how much work he got Week 1 and the short time to recover.
