Panthers waive injured WR Mose Frazier to make room for Gerald McCoy

The Panthers were already at the 90-man roster limit, so they needed to make room in order to sign defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. According to Jourdan Rodrigue at the Charlotte Observer, the odd man out is wide receiver Mose Frazier, who has been waived.

A preseason standout from 2017, Frazier broke his arm early on at OTAs.

Despite his impressive performances over the last two summers, making the roster would have been difficult for Frazier even before the injury.

Carolina usually carries only six wide receivers during the regular season. With Curtis Samuel, D.J. Moore, Torrey Smith, Chris Hogan, Jarius Wright and Aldrick Robinson likely taking those spots, there was only a very limited window for Frazier to make the team, if any at all.

McCoy’s signing pushes the Panthers’ salary cap obligations for the defensive line into ridiculous territory, but at the very least they should be in the conversation as being one of the top units in the league.
