Panthers waive 2 players, sign a kicker and a guard

The Panthers were very busy on Wednesday. In addition to training camp practice, they worked out a few offensive linemen and a kicker. This morning, the team announced that they’ve signed one of each.

According to Carolina’s official website, the Panthers signed guard Rishard Cook and kicker Joey Slye. To make room on the 90-man roster, guard Dorian Johnson and linebacker Brandon Chubb were waived/injured.

Cook is a rookie who went undrafted after playing college ball at UAB. Slye played at Virginia Tech, where he made 78 of 108 field goal attempts and 98.3 percent of his extra point tries. Neither Cook nor Slye have much of a chance to make the team, but anything can happen.

The Panthers are also reported to be bringing back safety Tre Boston on a one-year deal.
