Panthers vs. Titans: Winners and losers for Week 9

The Carolina Panthers got back on track as they defeated the Tennessee Titans, 30-20 this afternoon. Plenty of players had a helping hand in getting this win.

Let’s take a look at this week’s winners and losers.

Winner: RB Christian McCaffrey

Stop me if this sounds familiar. Christian McCaffrey had a phenomenal game today.

McCaffrey had yet another super productive day, totaling 146 yards on 24 carries and adding two scores on the ground and another one through the air. McCaffrey is the engine that makes Carolina’s offense go, no matter who is playing QB. The Titans have a good defense, but like everyone else in the league they just couldn’t stop him.

Loser: QB Kyle Allen

After lighting teams up for about a month, it seems as though the league is finally catching up with Kyle Allen. His traditional passing numbers – 232 yards and two touchdowns – seem pretty good but he actually had a forgettable game. His accuracy was off and he threw at least three passes that could have been intercepted. With Cam Newton out for the foreseeable future, the Panthers need Allen to show more consistency.

Winner: WR D.J. Moore

Moore had himself a breakout performance of sorts as he hauled in seven catches for 101 yards. This was the sort of game that Panthers fans had been waiting on from Moore, a first-round pick in 2018.

Up until this point it’s been a disappointing 2019 for Moore. However, this kind of outing can get a play-maker like that going. This could be the beginning of a strong second half to the season.

Loser: Panthers run defense

Carolina’s defense was mostly solid when it came to stopping Ryan Tannehill. Against Derrick Henry it was a different story, though. Henry averaged almost five yards per carry and finished with 99 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns. It wasn’t as bad as against the 49ers, but there’s still a lot of room to improve in this area.
