Panthers vs. Texans most watched Thursday nighter since 2018

No offense to the Carolina Panthers or the Houston Texans . . . but really?

The NFL has announced that the Week 3 matchup of these two non-brand name teams drew the most viewers for an exclusive Thursday Night Football broadcast since 2018. Who would’ve thought, right?

According to NFL Media, the game averaged 7.9 million viewers through its television and digital presence. That number is up over 35 percent from last year’s Week 3 Thursday nighter, which drew 5.8 million sets of eyes, between the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Carolina’s 24-9 win, headlined by apparent must-see superstar Sam Darnold, was also the most-watched telecast of the entire day. Take that The Masked Singer, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Little Women: Atlanta – The Reunion Special and MTV Floribama Shore!

Well, here’s the reality of it. Folks didn’t tune in specifically to see the Panthers and/or the Texans. As noted by the report, this game overtook said title from last week’s Thursday night contest between the New York Giants and the Washington Football Team.

So, what that probably tells you, is that there’s still a healthy hankering for NFL football. But, hey, at least the Panthers have some sort of mainstream record . . . until next week.
