Panthers vs Bears: How did former Bulldogs fare in preseason opener?

On Thursday night, former Georgia Bulldogs took the field for the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers at Soldier Field.

The Panthers took the preseason opener by a score of 23-13, as former Georgia running back Elijah Holyfield and wide receiver Terry Godwin shined in their NFL debut.

Holyfield had 9 carries for 26 yards and a touchdown. He also added 2 receptions for 13 yards and a touchdown. In total, a nice game for the son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield, tallying two touchdowns in his rookie debut. He did, however, give up a fumble.

Former 5-star wide receiver Terry Godwin recorded 1 reception for 10 yards as well. Additionally, he dazzled as the Panthers main guy at punt returner, taking one for 57 yards and another for 22 yards. His 57 yarder set up Holyfield’s receiving touchdown.

Great start for the two Panthers’ rookies.

For the Bears, wide receiver Riley Ridley did not get a chance to show his skills, but expect the Bears to find a way to incorporate the fourth-round pick more in next week’s game vs Deandre Baker and the New York Giants.

Second year receiver Javon Wims had 2 receptions for 15 yards.

Roquan Smith had 2 tackles, and opened the game with a smooth sack on Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen.
