Former Panthers center Ryan Kalil stunned the NFL yesterday by coming out of his very brief retirement and signing with the Jets. Kalil had played his entire 12-year career in Charlotte and is one of the most beloved players in Carolina franchise history. So, the news came as a shock to many Panthers fans.

So, why did Kalil decide to unretire? For one, he had $8.4 million reasons, which is pretty good for a center his age.
Apparently, Kalil also wanted an opportunity to play with second-year quarterback Sam Darnold, who shares his alma mater (USC).
Kalil is not the lineman he used to be, but at the very least he should provide some much-needed stability and experience for the Jets’ front line.
