The Panthers hosted are trying out WR Cam Phillips, a star in the recent XFL. He led all players with 455 receiving yards in just five games and lit it up with 9 TDs.

According to Field Yates at ESPN, the Carolina Panthers are trying out former XFL star wide receiver Cam Phillips, who played with backup quarterback P.J. Walker on the Houston Roughnecks. Phillips (six-foot, 174 pounds) was Walker’s favorite target, leading the league in receiving yards and touchdown catches before the season ended early due to the pandemic.
The team has some extra room at wide receiver due to several recent injuries at the position. Keith Kirkwood is out with a broken clavicle, Curtis Samuel has a hamstring problem, Seth Roberts is in the concussion protocol and rookie Omar Bayless will need surgery to heal his knee issue.
Assuming Bayless gets put on the injured reserve list, his spot could wind up going to Phillips if he signs.
Even with all the bad news coming out of training camp, this young and fast wide receiver corps is arguably still the strongest position group on the roster. Phillips’ connection with Walker could come in handy if starting QB Teddy Bridgewater ends up on the injury report during the season.
The Panthers also worked out wide receivers Jeff Badet, Saeed Blacknall and Darrell Stewart in addition to quarterback Cole McDonald.
