Panthers sign former Chiefs guard, put Brandon Greene on IR

The Carolina Panthers made a couple of minor roster moves today to bolster their interior offensive line depth. According to the team website, they signed free agent guard Bryan Witzmann and put Brandon Greene on the injured reserve list.

Witzmann is a big specimen for a guard at 6-foot-7 and 320 pounds. He played college football at South Dakota State and then went undrafted. His first job in the NFL came with the Texans, who signed him in May of 2014. Since then, Witzmann has become a bit of a journeyman, spending time on the practice squads or at the bottom end of the roster for several teams.

Witzmann has appeared in 37 games and started 20, most of which were with the Chiefs. Last season, he played 10 games at right guard for the Bears. If he’s active, it’s unlikely Witzmann will see much of the field unless the Panthers lose a couple of guards in the same game.
