Panthers sign DT Walter Palmore, get back up to 85-man roster

In order to get down to the league-mandated 85-man roster limit on Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers only had to move around five players. Instead, they moved six.

Simple math would tell you that leaves them at 84 men, giving them an extra spot to fill. So, they decided to patch up that void with defensive tackle Walter Palmore.

Carolina announced the signing of the 6-foot-3, 317-pound defender on Wednesday afternoon following the first of two joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens. Palmore, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Missouri in 2019, will now be joining his fifth team in the past three years.

Three of those teams were the Houston Texans, the organization that initially broke him in, the Dallas Cowboys and, most recently, the Seattle Seahawks. In the middle of those stops, Palmore played a season in the XFL for the Houston Roughnecks, where he appeared in two games.

His signing comes just two days after the Seahawks placed him on waivers to start the week.
