Panthers set franchise record for total yards in a 1st half

Like the weather this afternoon at Bank of America Stadium, the Carolina Panthers are extremely cold . . . in a good way.

The white-hot Detroit Lions and their defense have been no match for the home team’s offense, as the Panthers set a franchise record for the most total yards in a first half with 364—surpassing their 349 versus the Atlanta Falcons in 2015. And that monstrous output, which has pushed them to a 24-7 lead at the break, was reached due in large part to a relentless ground game.

Carolina’s ground-and-pound approach has netted them 240 yards and three touchdowns off of just 22 carries. The lead dog, at least thus far, has been second-year running back Chuba Hubbard—who has amassed 109 yards on six attempts.

D’Onta Foreman is not too far off. The veteran rusher has chalked up 104 yards on just 10 takes to this point.

Quarterback Sam Darnold is joining in on the fun as well. In addition to completing eight of his 12 passes for 124 yards, he’s also run for 21 yards and a score of his own on four carries.
