Panthers safety Eric Reid says he got his first ‘random’ drug test of 2019

Panthers safety Eric Reid says that he’s gotten his first random drug test by the NFL for 2019. Reid posted a photo of himself lifting weights, giving a shout-out to his trainer on Twitter while sharing the news.

Reid was “randomly” tested for drugs by the league six times in 11 weeks last season, all the more suspicious because of Reid’s collusion case.

That suit alleged NFL owners blackballed Reid during free agency last year when he was one of the top safeties on the market because of his kneeling protests with Colin Kaepernick. Reid did not sign with the Panthers until Da’Norris Searcy went on injured reserve with a concussion in late September.

After signing, Reid’s play on the field was officiated in a suspect way several times. The most glaring example was a missed interception that should have sealed the game against the Eagles. Reid added several questionable on-field fines to the file for his case, which was recently settled. Reid also had one fine for a hit on Zach Ertz rescinded and another for a hit on Ben Roethlisberger reduced.

Reid’s play received mixed reviews, but he was the top DB on Carolina’s roster last year. Last month, he signed a three-year contract extension.
