Panthers S Eric Reid says he played through sprained ankle, MCL in 2019

Panthers safety Eric Reid had a strong season in 2018 after signing late in September. This past year his performance was not quite up to the same level. Now we may have a better idea of why.

In a post he shared on his Twitter account, Reid claims he was hobbled by a sprained ankle and MCL the majority of the season. Reid says he’s not making excuses though and expects more from himself.

Reid was on the injury report at different times during the season but he still started all 16 games and posted career highs in sacks (four) and solo tackles (97) and tackles for a loss (seven).

Looking ahead, Reid has two years left on his contract so he’ll be around in 2020. It’s possible the Panthers will move him to linebacker to help compensate for the loss of Luke Kuechly. They’d need to find a new starting strong safety, though.
