Panthers reveal second wave of 2019 roster cuts

The Panthers have announced another waive of cuts, trimming the roster number down to 53 with hours to go before the deadline.

Here is a review of who has been waived, via the team website.

WR Terry Godwin
DE Bryan Cox, Jr.
LB Jared Norris
S Cole Luke
G Rishard Cook
S Corrion Ballard
CB Josh Thornton
S Quin Blanding
TE Temarrick Hemingway
DT Bijhon Jackson
LB Sione Teuhema
WR DeAndrew White

The team also waived/injured tight end Marcus Baugh.

The biggest surprise here is Godwin, who was a seventh-round draft pick and impressed as a returner during the preseason. Running back Reggie Bonnafon may be taking on that role.

Long-time special teams contributor Norris was ultimately the victim of the undrafted rookie Jordan Kunaszyk’s ascension.

As for Cox, he didn’t help himself with his recent citation for speeding and possession, but his release is more about how deep the Panthers’ pass rush rotation is. Efe Obada should benefit the most.
