Panthers reportedly signing free-agent S Nick Scott

Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero will be reuniting with another one of his guys.

As first reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Friday, the team has agreed to terms with safety Nick Scott. Scott, per ESPN’s David Newton, is expected to sign a one-year deal.

The Lancaster, Penn. native attended Penn State University from 2015 to 2018. He spent his first season as a running back, rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries, and his final three as a defensive back—totaling 108 tackles, a sack and three interceptions.

Scott was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams. That’s where he would cross paths with Evero, who was serving as the team’s safeties coach at the time.

Evero and Scott went on to share a sideline for three campaigns, a run that ended with a victory in Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals. The former went on to be hired as the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator the next season.

2022 saw Scott start in each of his 16 outings for the Rams. He amassed 86 combined tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Cincinnati then came calling last spring, signing Scott to a three-year deal. The 28-year-old, however, would see through just one season of that contract—as he was released by the Bengals on March 13.
