Panthers reportedly made inquiry on Colts RB Marlon Mack

If we’re to believe head coach Matt Rhule, the Carolina Panthers will look to redefine their offensive identity by running the ball more often.

Unfortunately for them, that won’t be as fun to do without their star rusher Christian McCaffrey for at least the next two weeks. But there may be another “Mac(k)” at running back that can help them for the time being.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Panthers are one of a handful of teams who have made “preliminary inquiries” into Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack. He’s also drawn interest from a few heavy hitters, including the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.

With Jonathan Taylor emerging as the featured runner for the Colts over the past two years, Mack has expressed his desire to be moved in light of his reduced role. Indianapolis and their former fourth-round pick, as far back as three weeks ago, have been seeking out a trade to accommodate his wishes.

Mack had himself a pair of standout campaigns between 2018 and 2019, rushing for a combined 1,999 yards (at an average of 4.5 yards per carry) and 17 touchdowns. Limited action in 2021 has seen him go for 97 yards on 25 attempts over four games.
