Panthers release inactives list for Week 5 game vs. Jaguars

The Carolina Panthers have released their list of inactives for today’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Here’s a look at who won’t be playing today.

QB Cam Newton
G Trai Turner
OT Greg Little
CB Donte Jackson
TE Chris Manhertz
OL Caleb Benenoch
DE Bryan Cox Jr.

Obviously, aside from Newton the big issue here is two key offensive linemen being ruled out. Turner is the team’s best OL by far and Little was an upgrade over Daryl Williams at left tackle last week. Williams is back on the blind side and rookie Dennis Daley will get his first start at right guard in Turner’s place.

On defense, Jackson missing another week also hurts. However, Ross Cockrell performed very well in his place against Houston. The defensive line hasn’t seemed to miss star DT Kawann Short (injured reserve) yet, but they might today as they try to contain a run-heavy offense led by Leonard Fournette.

On the other side, Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey is missing his second game in a row with a back injury.

Update:

John Matsko changed his mind. Instead of trying Williams at left tackle again, he’s going with Daley. Williams will start at right guard. This is a good decision. It’s a more natural position for Daley, who played that spot in college. He may or may not work out, but we know what Williams is at this point and it’s better to give the rookie a chance.
